The kernel has booted, mounted the filesystem image,
and started init without problems, I would assert that
the kernel and the filesystem independently are ok.

There is probably an error condition occurring as a result
of the rc script running, which is not causing a message,
and is most likely due to a configuration option wrong on
the kernel. The lazy solution is to reboot but force
the kernel to run the shell instead of init and manually
do the steps that init would normally perform automatically.
