The Linux bandwagon is getting pretty loaded lately. Intel Corp. and
Hewlett-Packard Co. announced the release of a software developer's kit
aimed at IA-64 Linux environments. The kit includes an IA-64 simulator so
developers can start writing 64-bit Linux applications on 32-bit Pentium
systems running any Linux 2.2 kernel-based operating system. Lack of 64-bit
hardware has been one of the chief complaints of developers looking to write
for the 64-bit chip. The news comes straight on the heels of the
announcement that AMD, an Intel rival, has crafted a deal with Lineo to
build embedded Linux solutions for Internet appliances. Click for more.
