RE: [uCsimm] can't mount with RedHat 6.0

I never use rhosts... maybe I should? :)

iMax, make sure you're running (at a minimum) portmap, nfsd, and mountd. On
a Debian system, it looks like this:

  309 ? S 0:00 /sbin/portmap
  313 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/rpc.nfsd
  315 ? S 0:00 /usr/sbin/rpc.mountd

(You have to be running portmap first.)

At a minimum, running rpcinfo -p should display this:

   program vers proto port
    100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
    100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
    100003 2 udp 2049 nfs
    100003 2 tcp 2049 nfs
    100005 1 udp 916 mountd
    100005 2 udp 916 mountd
    100005 1 tcp 919 mountd
    100005 2 tcp 919 mountd

When you have successfully mounted something with the uCsimm, you should see
this in /var/log/syslog (/var/log/messages on redhat?) on the host machine:

Jan 20 22:41:33 my_server's_name mountd[315]: NFS mount of
/usr/local/projects/ramdisk attempted from
Jan 20 22:41:33 my_server's_name mountd[315]: /usr/local/projects/ramdisk
has been mounted by

If it hangs somehow, you can do this:

strace -p 309 (or 313 or 315), where 303, 313, and 315 are the PIDs of
portmap, nfsd, and mountd. This will show you all the syscalls that the
given PID is doing. That way, if it hangs on trying to resolve an IP address
to a DNS name, you can see it. (It'll say gethostbyaddr or something.)

Hope that works...

Did you mention the uCsimm IP in /etc/hosts then made an entry in
/root/rhosts for the hostname associated with the IP of the uCsimm?
I commonly forget to update the rhosts file, someday I'll remember..
