Yessir...

now MIND YOU... I built with --prefix=/opt/uClinux  (and in /opt/uClinux/bin
there exists m68k-elf-as and even it doesn't like -mc68020 or -c68020 (same
error as with the gcc command given)

That is perhaps where my problem lies...  I'm trying to keep the
cross-compile limited to directories in /opt/uClinux but it doesn't seem to
want to...  I need links in /usr/local/ for m68k-elf and so on  :-(

I'll wait for your reply and if you agree I'll dump that idea and reinstall
with the regular prefixes.
